Durban, South Africa, September 12, 2018: Save the date and get ready for the 2018 Africa Fashion Exchange (AFX), hosted by the KZN Fashion Council (KZNFC), to be held in Durban.
Get ready to be part of a remarkable journey that will lead you to one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most glamorous red-carpet event from September 27-29, 2018.
The crème da la crème of fashion and high- end designers from KZN, other parts of South Africa, and neighbouring African countries are expected to descend on the Province.
Members of the media are cordially invited to join us for one of Africa’s must-see events on the social calendar, the AFX 2018.
The three-day event will be held at 150 Avondale Road, Greyville Gate 5, Durban.
KZNFC board chairperson Dr Joy Ndlovu said: “This three-day event will put this Province on the global fashion radar. It is not only about good fashion and design, but it’s also the business of fashion.
“The AFX event brings together the movers, shakers and trailblazers of the fashion industry and uniting them with the big thinkers, entrepreneurs and inspiring people who are shaping the continent.”
The KZNFC will create an arena that is conducive for business-to-business meetings, networking opportunities and linkages with retailers and buyers to boost business in the fashion and textile industries.
The AFX is also a platform to groom tomorrow’s next big brands. The three-day show will be underpinned under the theme, “Africa By Design”.
Nisha Thavar, managing director of KZNFC, said: “The show is key to the survival of the fashion industry in the Province, the country and the continent. It creates a platform for South African and African designers to get exposure and platforms to market their products, exchange business ideas and set the agenda for the fashion sector in sub-Saharan Africa.
“When we create a design and set our own fashion benchmarks in Africa, we do not have to compete with those from Europe and America to be recognised. When we say Africa by design, we are consciously and deliberately using African methods, arts and crafts as a stimulus for our creativity.”
The theme which will be incorporated throughout the three-day event will highlight how the fashion design and textile sector is a sector that has the potential to contribute largely to the continent’s economy and fight the plague of poverty and unemployment.
Big fashion names are expected at the high-end event.
The show will also place KZN’s hidden gems on a global platform and aim to highlight KZN as the capital of Fashion.
The AFX will incorporate a variety of activities that will provide its participants with an experience like no other. This includes knowledge sharing sessions with renowned guest speakers, prestigious fashion shows, exhibitions, film screenings and back to back business meetings with buyers and designers.
The event will also see the young and the old, famous and upcoming brands in one room sharing innovative ideas and recognising pure African talent.
