KZNFC in collaboration with AFI sends design students on AFI experience
International and local designers gathered this weekend in Cape Town to attend one of the most prestigious fashion events in the South African and African events calendar; the Africa Fashion International (AFI) Cape Town Fashion Week held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
This annual fashion event took place from the 9-13 April where African designers and influencers collaborated in sharing knowledge and showcasing their African aesthetic creations.
The KZN Fashion Council in collaboration with the Africa Fashion International (AFI) Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW) had the pleasure of empowering, educating and exposing eleven KZN design students and emerging designers to the 2019 AFICTFW event.
The students were specially selected from the various KZN fashion and design institutes to attend the 2019 AFICTFW event, the purpose of this was to educate and train the design students about everything that goes on when prepping for a fashion show. The students also got an opportunity to tour “behind the scenes” of how the show was put together.
In addition the KZN Fashion Council invited the designer and mentor Cyril Naicker who shared a few words of empowerment to the aspiring designers; like our design students and emerging designers; he is also from Kwa-Zulu Natal and has worked with various organisations towards the sustainability of the fashion industry.
Fashion legend and board member of the KZN Fashion Council, Lindiwe Kuzwayo applauded the KZN Fashion Council in working with AFI to create such an amazing educational opportunity for KZN designers and added that the KZNFC brand and integrity was well represented. The design students also thanked the KZN Fashion Council for this once in a lifetime opportunity and experience
This was an overall exceptional experience for our KZN designers and the council hopes that they benefited and gathered much information and learning from this event and about the overall fashion and design industry. The KZN Fashion Council promises to continue investing in local designers and has planned many more amazing opportunities for the growth of KZN Designers. Kwa-Zulu Natal designers, whether aspiring or established are encouraged to join the membership program with the KZN Fashion Council.
